Limited Edition

I like to think of the west coast of the island as one would think of their childhood home. That is if one is flooded with a lifetime of fond memories with family and friends. Not only is it my favourite place to paint but my favourite place period. I would gladly live out my days painting its magical shores with its endless, limitless combinations of coves, weather, colour and light.

Something I often hear people say are things like "Gee, I wish I could paint." or "I can only draw stick men" and that to paint is a gift. It stirs me to consider why I have this gift. I didn't ask for it. I have no art education, I know nothing of art and art theory, I'm not even interested in art. What is the purpose of this gift in me?

Yet as I stand on Mackenzie beach, I look up into Crystal Cove to watch my kids play in the golden light of golden hour before the sun is gently swallowed by the mighty Pacific. I then feel so fully compelled to capture the coasts' beauty that I realize the purpose of this gift is to seal these fleeting moments in paint for others to enjoy forever.
